What order should i watch stargate
Stargate: Continuum completes the story arc of a certain character that we know from Stargate SG Even though the evil Goa'uld are killed off in season 8 of Stargate SG-1, one survivor remained, named Ba'al. Ba'al continued to play a minor role in SG-1 seasons 9 and 10, occasionally joining forces with the Earthlings, but ultimately remains evil. However, this is a clone of Ba'al, and the real Ba'al has one last trick up his sleeve to gain universal power.
Ba'al time-travels to and prevents the Stargate program on Earth from ever happening. Doing so creates an alternate timeline where Ba'al conquers the universe and will soon assault Earth. Fortunately, a few members of SG-1 remember the old timeline and successfully revert history back to the way things were originally. The movie ends with the first scene — Ba'al is about to be executed. This time, the characters are unaware of the previous events of an alternate timeline and go through with killing him, once and for all.
Once you're done with Continuum , it's time to head back to Stargate Atlantis one last time. You're going to watch the fifth and final season of the show. Fortunately, the show does a pretty good job of wrapping up a bunch of plotlines. McKay, the snobbish geek, finally falls in love with Keller. The team finally defeats their archenemy, the Wraith.
In the end, humans can finally form a government in the Pegasus Galaxy, free from the tyranny of enemy alien forces. The series finale of Stargate Atlantis is pretty spectacular. The Wraith discover the location of Earth and head straight for it, planning to basically eat everyone there. So the team decides to fly the city of Atlantis to Earth and join in a massive fight to fend off the Wraith.
After the conclusion of Stargate Atlantis , fans got another TV show called Stargate Universe , although it only lasted two seasons. And you get to watch the entire show without threading any other content into the mix. The plot and characters are pretty separated from the rest of the franchise, essentially making the show its own independent story arc. In Stargate Universe, Earthlings discover that an old alien race called the Ancients sent an exploration ship deep into the universe — like super far into the universe.
It's so freaking far that it's actually quite difficult to even get to the ship using the Stargate, and it's such a long journey that it turns out to be permanent. A team from Stargate command decides to check it out, but then they get stuck on the ship.
The show is a balance between figuring out how to get back, surviving, and also figuring out what the Ancients were trying to accomplish with this ship. As it turns out, the Ancients were investigating something extremely close to where the Big Bang occurred, and there's evidence that there was life prior to the Big Bang, or at least soon after. Well, if you've been following along, we've been going in roughly chronological order through the Stargate franchise.
Here is the one exception: Stargate Origins is a web series that serves as a prequel to everything you know so far. It takes you back in time to , long before the events of the first movie. Origins is quite a different medium than the rest of the franchise, as its ten episodes are only ten minutes long apiece. If you've been binging so far, you'll be able to knock this series out really quickly.
The plot follows a young Catherine Langford, who is trying to unlock the secrets of the Stargate. It's explained throughout Stargate SG-1 that Langford was key in helping establish the Stargate program. We now get to hear more details about that story in Stargate Origins. The main antagonist of the series is a Nazi who, surprise, knows about the Stargate and how it works.
Stargate, the film. Stargate SG-1 seasons 1 through 7. SG-1 season 8 and Atlantis season 1. SG-1 season 9 and Atlantis season 2. SG-1 season 10 and Atlantis season 3. Stargate: The Ark of Truth. After hundreds of episodes, Stargate SG-1 has come to an end — now dust off your hands and go over to Stargate Atlantis season 3, which you should watch concurrently.
In Stargate Atlantis, the crew successfully prevents the Wraith from attacking Earth, but they also fail to generate a retrovirus capable of transforming the Wraith into humans. Throughout the season, they face up against the Wraith as well as a new foe known as the Asurans, which are self-replicating nanobots. However, the spacecraft is wrecked shortly after this evasive maneuver, and our heroes are stranded in space.
The Ark of Truth concludes the Ori plotline that was left hanging in the SG-1 series finale, effectively eradicating the enemy once and for all. The film opens by detailing the existence of an ancient artifact known as the Ark of Truth, which has the ability to vanquish the Ori. Naturally, the crew is eager to locate it, but it is located on the Ori homeworld. Even though it is a death mission, they go to the planet and recover the gadget. However, in the process, they resuscitate an ancient foe — the replicators.
The technology demonstrates to the Priors that the Ori are not gods. The Priors are humans who serve the Ori and spread their religion, which includes invasion plans for Earth. The Ark of Truth has the effect of making all Priors in the galaxy aware of the truth, causing them to abandon their faith and the Ori entirely, and the film concludes with SG-1 preparing to travel through the Stargate on yet another mission, hinting that the tale will continue.
Our heroes are striving to rebuild the city of Atlantis, which is floating in space. They continue to combat their two main foes, the Wraith, and the Asurans, but in a brilliant ploy, they compel the two adversaries to attack each other. After the Atlantis crew reprograms the Asurans, they start attacking the Wraith, who appear to be decimated. Stargate: Continuum is another direct-to-video film that, while largely an independent plot, does fit chronologically between Seasons 4 and 5 of Atlantis.
Stargate: Continuum concludes the narrative of a particular individual from Stargate SG Fortunately, a few members of SG-1 recall the earlier chronology and successfully return history to its former state.
This time, the characters are oblivious of the prior events of another timeline and proceed to murder him for good. Fortunately, the program does an excellent job of closing up several plotlines. McKay, the snooty nerd, eventually falls for Keller. The crew ultimately overcomes the Wraith, their archenemy. Finally, mankind will be able to build a government in the Pegasus Galaxy, free from the oppression of hostile extraterrestrial powers.
The Wraith learns the location of Earth and rushes there, intending to consume everyone there. As a result, the crew resolves to sail the city of Atlantis to Earth and join a great battle against the Wraith. Atlantis lands in the Pacific Ocean near San Francisco after an epic battle and magnificent victory. Season one of the efforts to resurrect Stargate begins up after the events of Atlantis.
After the completion of Stargate Atlantis, viewers were treated to another TV show called Stargate Universe, which lasted only two seasons. The premise and characters are quite distinct from the rest of the franchise, thereby making the program its own standalone story arc.
Earthlings discover in Stargate Universe that an ancient alien culture known as the Ancients dispatched an expedition ship deep into the universe — like extremely deep into the universe.
A crew from Stargate Command decides to investigate, but they get stranded aboard the spacecraft. The program strikes a balance between figuring out how to go back, living, and discovering out what the Ancients were up to with this spacecraft. As it turns out, the Ancients were examining something very near to where the Big Bang happened, and there is evidence that there was life before, or shortly after, the Big Bang. The Destiny continues its voyage through the Universe, despite a paucity of supplies and no idea of its ultimate destination.
Faced with unexplored space and opponents who want to capture the ship by force, the Destiny crew fights to remain alive and find a route home. This continuation proved popular with audiences and the show remained on air, with Seasons Two, Three, Four, Five, Six and Seven following between and The following year, the show was revived and concluded via two television movies — Stargate: The Ark of Truth and Stargate: Continuum. Meanwhile, Stargate Atlantis remained on air for two additional seasons, concluding with Season Five in It was then followed by a new spin-off show, Stargate: Universe , which aired two seasons between and Although this seemed like the end of the Stargate story, the mythology was revived in for a new web series.
The series — Stargate Origins — acted as a prequel to all of the movies and TV shows that had come before, and detailed events at the very beginning of the timeline. Below is a list of all the Stargate movies and TV shows in chronological order.
This order starts at the very beginning of the timeline, with Stargate Origins set in as the first entry, followed by Stargate largely set in as the second entry, and so on.
While this list does its very best to put everything into chronological order, it should be noted that there will be a few blips along the way. This is because some seasons of Stargate SG-1 and Stargate Atlantis aired at the same time, so the events of some seasons do overlap. Where overlapping occurs, I have placed the seasons in the best viewing order possible.
In addition to the above list, there are two Stargate anomalies which I need to draw your attention to. This movie does not appear on the above list as it is in essence a recut of the pilot episode of Stargate SG-1 , albeit with new visual effects and some additional scenes. As for Stargate Infinity , this is an animated show set in the future long after the events of Stargate Universe.
The show is not considered canon, is largely ignored by fans, and is for Stargate completists only. If you work your way through the Stargate timeline, and become a fan of the mythology especially the Stargate SG-1 mythology then you may wish to check out Stargate: Children of the Gods , which is available on DVD. As noted above, this is a revised cut of the pilot episode of SG-1 and presents a slightly different take on the original material.
